faq

sonotoi

what is sonotoi?

a small drum machine for iPhone and iPad. you build a track out of instruments — kick, clap, hat, perc, bass, stab, pad — on a sixteen-step grid: tap a step to place a note, drag it sideways to make it longer. pick a sound for each instrument, turn a few knobs, change the bpm. every sound is synthesised on the device as it plays.

who is it for?

people who love electronic music and want to make some, but would not feel at home opening a full production app or a piece of hardware. no music training needed. it is small on purpose: one screen, a few controls, nothing to manage.

do I need an account?

no. there is no account and no sign-in. your tracks are saved on your device.

which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad. on iPad it works in both orientations.

does it record audio? why does it mention the microphone?

no. sonotoi never records or listens. the audio library it is built on mentions the microphone, so iOS requires a description for it, but the app never uses it.

is it free?

yes, the app is free to download.

does it collect any data?

only anonymous usage and crash data, so we can improve the app and fix what breaks. see the privacy policy.

how do I get help?
